The value of an 1890 Carson City (CC) Silver Dollar depends almost entirely on its physical condition, or grade. Its worth is not a single figure but exists on a wide spectrum, ranging from about one hundred dollars for a heavily worn coin to several thousand dollars for a pristine, uncirculated example.
For coins that show signs of wear from circulation, values typically start around $100 to $125 for a specimen in Good condition. As the condition improves, the value increases accordingly. A coin in Fine condition might be worth approximately $135 to $170, while one in Very Fine condition could be valued between $165 and $225. An example in Extremely Fine condition generally commands a price in the range of $220 to $275.
The value rises significantly for uncirculated coins, also known as Mint State (MS), which have no wear from circulation. An 1890-CC Morgan in a lower Mint State grade like MS-60 or MS-61 is valued between $450 and $500. The price climbs sharply from there. For example, an MS-63 grade coin is valued at approximately $800, an MS-64 at $1,400, and a high-quality MS-65 example can be worth around $3,750 or more.
Although it carries the desirable "CC" mint mark, the 1890-CC is one of the more common issues from the Carson City Mint, with a mintage of over 2.3 million. Many of these coins were stored in government vaults for decades, which is why a relatively large number of uncirculated examples survive today, making them more accessible to collectors than other Carson City dates. For an exact valuation, it is recommended to have the specific coin professionally authenticated and graded.
