If your Sony CFD-S05 Radio CD Player and Cassette Player isn't reading CDs, the optical pickup unit might need replacing. Here's how to do it: First, gather your tools: you'll need a Pro Tech Toolkit and a Universal Drive Adapter. Then, start by removing screws. Unscrew those on the top of the radio first. Next, open the CD and cassette doors and remove any screws found inside those compartments. To open the CD door, gently push on the bottom left corner. For the cassette door, press the button to the left of the pause button. Flip the radio over and remove the cover, then unscrew the one screw located underneath the batteries. Carefully remove the top of the radio, being mindful of the wires connecting it to the circuit board. Disconnect all wires attached to both the circuit board and the underside of the top, including three sets of red and white wires, one set of white wires, one set of black wires, and two ribbon wires. Some plugs may be fixed to the top piece; disconnect these from the circuit board instead. Now, unscrew the three screws securing the optical pickup unit; it's located directly beneath the CD player on the underside of the top face. Install the new optical pickup unit, ensuring correct alignment. [Instructions related to the new optical pickup unit]. To reassemble, simply follow these steps in reverse.
