Measuring DC voltage with your Major Tech MT21 600V AC/DC Multimeter is straightforward. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Safety First Always turn the function switch to the OFF position when the multimeter is not in use. Avoid measuring DC voltages when a motor on the circuit is being switched ON or OFF; this can cause voltage surges and damage your meter.
Setting Up the Multimeter a. Set the function switch to the highest V DC position initially. This helps prevent damage if you're unsure of the voltage. b. Insert the black test lead banana plug into the negative (COM) jack. c. Insert the red test lead banana plug into the positive (V) jack.
Taking the Measurement a. Touch the black test probe tip to the negative side of the circuit you are measuring. b. Touch the red test probe tip to the positive side of the circuit. c. Observe the voltage reading on the LCD. If the value displayed is higher than the selected range, adjust by turning the function switch to a higher V DC range position.
Fine-Tuning Resolution To get a more precise reading, adjust the function switch to successively lower V DC positions. The display will show the decimal point and value correctly. If the polarity is reversed, a minus (-) sign will appear before the value.
Troubleshooting Tips a. If you see "OL" on the display, it means the voltage is beyond the selected range. Increase the range by adjusting the function switch. b. It's normal for the display to show a fluctuating reading on low AC and DC voltage ranges when the test leads aren't connected to a circuit. This will stabilize once connected.
