Determining whether your installation is TYPE IC or TYPE NON-IC depends on how close insulation is to the fixture's rough-in section. Let's break it down:
TYPE IC Installation: This classification applies when the rough-in section of the fixture directly contacts insulation. To install as TYPE IC, make sure you use trims listed on the IC portion of your fixture label. Also, remove the peel-off label on the housing that warns against installing insulation within 3 inches (76mm) of the fixture's sides. This is applicable for L3R and L7XR models.
TYPE NON-IC Installation: This applies when insulation is not placed over or within 3 inches (76mm) of the rough-in section's sides. For TYPE NON-IC installations, use trims listed on the NON-IC section of the fixture label. Always consult your product's instruction manual for specific guidance. By understanding insulation proximity, you can accurately classify your installation.
