Installing the QA1 52854 High Clearance Front Sway Bar Kit on your GM G-Body (1978-1988) requires following these steps for optimal performance and safety:
-
Preparation:
- Safely raise and support your vehicle on jack stands, ensuring it's on a level surface.
- Remove the existing factory sway bar, if your vehicle has one.
-
Mounting Bracket and Sway Bar Assembly:
- Place the mounting bracket and sway bar on a flat surface, with the sway bar sticker facing down.
- Insert the 3/8 x 1 hardware up through the mounting bracket.
- Position the bushings around the sway bar, securing them with the bushing straps.
- Attach the sway bar to the bracket using washers and nyloc nuts through the bushing straps. Start all four connections loosely.
- Install the 3/8 x 1 bolts with washers down through the mounting bracket.
-
Vehicle Installation:
- Flip the sway bar assembly over and position it on the vehicle. The legs of the sway bar should be above the lower trailing arms.
- Thread the four bracket bolts into the original sway bar mounting points. Do not tighten them yet.
- Install the sway bar end links, connecting the sway bar to the control arm. Make sure the bar and control arms are between the bushings.
-
Final Steps:
- With the suspension compressed, tighten the sway bar end links until the bushings compress to the same diameter as the washers.
- Torque all 3/8 hardware to 31 lb. ft.
-
