Installing a LUX T101141SA heating-only mechanical thermostat is straightforward. Here are the steps:
- Select the Right Location: Mount the thermostat on an interior wall, roughly five feet above the floor, in a room that's regularly used. Avoid spots near direct sunlight, heat sources like lamps or fireplaces, and areas with moisture or poor airflow.
- Gather Your Tools: You'll need a wire stripper or a knife, a drill with a 3/16-inch bit, a screwdriver, a level, and a pencil.
- Remove the Old Thermostat: First, cut off power and turn off the gas supply to your heater. Take off the cover of the existing thermostat and loosen all the screws. Carefully detach the wires from the old thermostat, making sure they don't fall back into the wall. Strip about 3/8 inch of insulation from the wire ends and clean off any corrosion. Fill the opening in the wall with non-combustible insulation to prevent drafts.
- Install the New Thermostat: If your new thermostat comes with a decorative wall plate, put it over the wall opening. Detach the front cover of the new LUX thermostat by gently prying at the corners. Position the base of the thermostat on the wall plate, over the opening, and mark the wall at the mounting holes with a pencil. Drill two holes using a 3/16-inch bit, about 1 inch deep. Insert the plastic anchors into the drilled holes. Bring the wires through the large hole in the decorative wall plate and through the base's wire hole. Secure the base loosely to the wall using the two mounting screws. Use a level to ensure the base is straight, then tighten the screws. Connect the wires to the terminal screws on the base. Push any extra wire back into the wall. Set the anticipator setting on the new thermostat to match the setting on your old one. Finally, attach the front cover to the base.
- Restore Power and Test: Turn the electricity and gas back on. Set the temperature pointer on the thermostat to your desired temperature. If you run into any issues during installation, check the user manual or reach out to LUX Products' Technical Assistance Department for help.
