Installing a LUX T101141SA Heating Only Mechanical Thermostat is a straightforward process. Here's a step-by-step guide:
Select the Right Spot: Choose an interior wall location about five feet above the floor in a frequently used room. Avoid direct sunlight, drafts, areas near heat sources like lamps or fireplaces, and places with poor air circulation or high humidity.
Gather Your Tools: You'll need a wire stripper or knife, a drill with a 3/16" bit, a screwdriver, a level, and a pencil.
Remove the Old Thermostat: First, disconnect the power supply to the heating system and turn off the gas. Carefully remove the cover of your existing thermostat. Loosen the screws and detach the wires, ensuring they don't fall back into the wall. Strip about 3/8" of insulation from the wire ends and clean any corrosion. Fill the wall opening with non-combustible insulation to prevent drafts.
Install the New Thermostat: Place the decorative wall plate (if included) over the wall opening. Remove the front cover of your new LUX T101141SA by gently prying at the corners. Position the thermostat base over the wall plate and mark the wall through the mounting holes with your pencil. Drill two holes using a 3/16" bit, about 1" deep, and insert plastic anchors. Bring the wires through the large hole in the wall plate and the base's wire hole. Attach the base loosely to the wall with the screws. Use a level to ensure it's straight, then tighten the screws. Connect the wires to the terminal screws on the base. Push any excess wire back into the wall. Set the anticipator setting on your new thermostat to match the setting from your old thermostat. Finally, attach the front cover to the base.
Restore Power and Test: Turn the electricity and gas back on. Set the temperature pointer on the thermostat to your desired setting. If you experience any issues, consult the LUX T101141SA user manual or contact LUX Products' Technical Assistance for support.
