Installing the FJ4 Fan Coil Unit in a downflow configuration requires careful attention to detail. Here's how to do it: First, you'll need the appropriate accessory downflow kit and base kit to convert the unit. Make sure you have a fireproof resilient gasket, about 1/8" to 1/4" thick, between the duct, unit, and floor. For units with A-coils, start by removing the blower and coil access panels. Next, take out the metal clip that holds the fitting panel to the condensate pan and remove the fitting panel. Then, detach the snap-in clips that secure the A-coil and slide the coil and pan assembly out. You'll need to move the horizontal drain pan support bracket from the left side of the unit to the right side. Be sure to convert the air seal assembly for a horizontal right configuration, following the instructions in your manual. Install the horizontal pan on the right side of the coil assembly and slide the coil assembly back into the casing. Proper condensate drainage is crucial. Install both primary and secondary drain lines, using appropriately sized condensate traps. The outlet of each trap must be positioned below its connection to the condensate pan. Slope the condensate drain lines downwards at a minimum of 1 inch for every 10 feet of length. Always check and adhere to local codes for any additional requirements or safety measures.
