To access Field Programming mode on your Yaesu Vertex Standard VX-10 transceiver for custom settings, follow these steps:

  1. Remove the battery from the radio.
  2. Remove the NiCd battery advisory label from the back of the radio.
  3. Unscrew the two keypad screws (do not remove the keypad).
  4. Place the contact plate (part no. R0152390), with tabs down, under the keypad screws.
  5. Put the NiCd battery advisory label back and re-attach the battery.
  6. Simultaneously press and hold the Lamp, PTT, and Power buttons. The radio will power on, self-test briefly, and show "* SET *".
  7. The radio is now ready for programming. Use the channel selector to choose between programming categories: "* SET ", " PROG ", and " MRCH *".
  8. In the SET category, press the A key to view the first setting. Follow the instructions to change each setting.
  9. In the PROG category, press the A key to view the first item. Make changes as described for the SET category.
  10. In the MRCH (Memory Channel) category, press the A key to view channels for editing. Use the channel selector to choose the channel you want to edit and make changes as needed.
  11. After all changes are complete, press the B key to go back to the main menu (SET / PROG / MRCH).
  12. To exit Field Programming mode, power off the radio. Then, while powering it back on, press and hold the PTT and Lamp buttons. The radio will start up in normal operating mode. For detailed programming options and settings within each category, consult the VX-10 Yaesu Vertex Standard Transceiver manual.
