Keeping your BUNN BX Speed Brew Classic 10-Cup Coffee Brewer clean is essential for both its performance and longevity. Here's a comprehensive guide to cleaning it:
-
For Speed Brew models (excluding Thermal models):
- Wash the brew funnel and glass carafe after each use. These are top-rack dishwasher safe.
- If washing by hand, use a mild, non-abrasive dish soap.
- Occasionally wipe the outside of the coffee maker, including the area above the brew funnel. Ensure the warmer switch is in the OFF position after wiping.
-
For Thermal models:
- Avoid using abrasive cleaners on the carafe to prevent scratching the stainless steel.
- Periodically remove the brew-through valve on the Thermal Carafe lid and clean it with mild, non-abrasive detergent. To remove the valve, lift at the edge and pull up. Be sure to clean the passage where the valve is located (not all models have a valve).
- To remove coffee stains from inside the thermal carafe, place a paper filter in the brew funnel and add 2 teaspoons of powder dishwasher detergent. Pour one carafe of water into the coffee maker, place the carafe under the funnel, and close the lid. When the brewing cycle stops, remove the brew funnel and discard the filter, then rinse the funnel. Let the carafe sit for about 15 minutes. Use a soft-bristled brush to clean the inside and outer rim of the carafe. Scrub the carafe, pour lip, and lid with a soft cloth, warm water, and mild detergent. Rinse the carafe and lid thoroughly.
-
Cleaning the spray head:
- Cleaning the sprayhead tube removes mineral deposits from your water, which is recommended every 3 months or more frequently if you have hard water.
- Turn the tank power switch to OFF and unplug the coffee maker, letting it cool for at least 2 hours.
- Remove the funnel and unscrew the spray head with your fingertips.
- Reinsert the funnel in the machine and pour a carafe of fresh water into the coffee maker, keeping the lid open. Place the empty carafe under the funnel and close the lid. Water will flow into the carafe.
- Check the spray head holes and clear any deposits with a toothpick. Clean the spray head with a cloth and dish soap, then rinse with water.
- Empty the carafe and replace it under the funnel. Reinstall the spray head and brew funnel.
- Plug in the coffee maker and turn the tank power switch to ON. Wait 15 minutes for the water to reach brewing temperature.
-
Routine cleaning (every 3 months or more, depending on water mineral content):
- Slide the brew funnel into the funnel rails and place the carafe under the funnel.
- Open the lid and pour white vinegar into the coffee maker, then close the lid. Empty the carafe when the liquid stops flowing.
- Flip the tank switch to OFF and unplug the coffee maker. Let the vinegar sit for at least 2 hours.
- Remove the brew funnel and unscrew the spray head. Clear any deposits from the spray head holes with a toothpick. Clean the spray head with a cloth and dish soap and rinse with water.
- Pour a carafe of fresh water into the coffee maker, place the carafe under the funnel, and close the lid (the water will flush out the vinegar). Empty the carafe when the liquid stops flowing.
- Repeat the fresh water cycle 3 or more times, or until the vinegar smell is gone.
- Remove the funnel, reattach the spray head, and replace the funnel and carafe. Plug in the coffee maker and turn the tank switch to ON. Allow the water to reach brewing temperature (about 15 minutes).
