Start with the initial testing: allow the unit to charge for about an hour, and then run a short discharge test. After that, make sure it charges for 72 hours before conducting a full one-hour test. The ballast also performs automated tests. It runs a 30-second test monthly, typically every 26 to 28 days. If problems arise, the Lighted Push Button Test Switch (LPTS) will flash to indicate an issue. Consult the manual's table to interpret the flash codes for diagnosis. Annually, the ballast performs a 90-minute test. Any failures during this annual test are also shown through LPTS flashes, requiring you to refer to the manual for diagnosis. You can also manually test the emergency operation at any time once the unit is fully charged. Simply press and release the LPTS. This doesn't affect the automatic testing and uses the same diagnostic flashes as the automatic tests. Note the failure codes: One flash means a charge failure, two flashes indicate a failure, three flashes suggest a lamp failure, and four flashes point to an inverter failure. If any of these codes appear, it's best to have qualified personnel service the unit.
