Transforming your Humminbird HELIX fish finder into a portable setup allows for versatile use. Here's how to do it: First, detach the control head cables from your boat. Then, loosen the gimbal knobs and remove the control head from the bracket. If you have a Portable Conversion Kit, unmount the transducer, keeping the screws for future use. Follow the portable transducer installation guide for setup. Next, attach the riser blocks and gimbal bracket to the portable base using screws. Choose the correct gimbal bracket for your HELIX model and secure it to the riser blocks. Run the power and transducer cables through the base's hole. Connect these cables to your control head. Ensure sufficient cable slack for the control head's movement. Now, set the control head aside. Route the cables under the base and secure the with tie-down straps. Reinstall the control head in the gimbal bracket and connect the cables. Adjust the viewing angle and tighten the gimbal knobs. Attach the handle to the base. Charge the battery until it's full. Place the battery in the battery well, making sure the power cable fits snugly and the foam pad is correctly positioned. Use the tie-down straps to secure the battery. Place the base in the portable bag, with the control head facing outward. Connect the transducer cable to the jumper port in the portable case and the power cable's spade clips to the battery terminals. Store the transducer and charger in the bag and zip it up. To drain water, unzip the front and pull the case down; if necessary, remove the case from the base and air-dry it.
