Here's a straightforward guide to help you: Always unplug your KRUPS XP1020 and allow it to cool completely before cleaning. For the exterior, simply wipe it down regularly with a damp cloth. The drip tray and its grid should be removed, washed, and dried frequently. Avoid using harsh cleaners; never use alcohol-based or abrasive cleaning products or solvents. Use a damp sponge to clean the grid where hot water passes through. Refrain from using soap or other cleaning agents on the machine to prevent impacting the flavor of your coffee. After each use with milk, clean the steam nozzle by rinsing it with a damp sponge. If the steam nozzle becomes clogged, carefully remove the plastic housing of the cappuccino nozzle when the machine is cold. Unscrew the steam nozzle tip and use a sewing needle to remove any milk residue. Rinse the nozzle under running water and wipe the outside with a wet cloth. To descale the espresso side, remove the brewing sieve. Dissolve a packet of KRUPS descaling solution in 10 oz (300 ml) of lukewarm water, and pour this solution into the boiler container. Open the steam valve and turn on the machine, letting the descaling solution flow out through both the espresso outlet and the steam nozzle. Repeat this step. Finally, run two boiler containers of fresh water through the system to rinse it thoroughly. Allow the machine to cool completely before reassembling the brewing sieve and the cappuccino nozzle's plastic housing.
