To buy a Section 8 property, you must first be a qualified tenant with a voucher and meet homeownership program requirements, such as being a first-time homeowner and participating in the program for at least a year. You will also need to find a property, get a mortgage pre-approval, have the property pass a Housing Quality Standard (HQS) inspection, and have it pass an independent professional inspection before you can purchase it. If you are an investor a property that already has a Section 8 tenant, you must notify the Public Housing Agency (PHA) and provide new ownership and contact information.
