You can sue for the cost to repair or replace the damaged property, which is typically the lesser of the repair cost or the property's fair market value just before the damage occurred. For real property, you can also sue for the loss in value, and for personal property, you may be able to recover for lost use while the property is being repaired. If the property was intentionally destroyed or damaged recklessly, you may be able to sue for punitive damages in addition to compensatory damages.
