Your 401(k) remains your property after you leave a job, but you can’t add to it. Options include keeping it in the plan, rolling it to an IRA(Individual Retirement Account), or transferring to your new employer’s plan. Cashing out is allowed but costly due to penalties. A rollover protects and grows your retirement nest egg.
