Partial unemployment benefits in the U.S. are available for those working part-time, especially if hours or pay were cut, or if you took a part-time job while seeking full-time work. All gross weekly wages must be reported. Benefits decrease based on income, but some payments may still be issued, potentially extending the overall benefit duration.

Under the updated NYS DOL partial unemployment rules, benefits are calculated using total weekly hours. You may work up to seven days a week without losing full benefits if you work 30 hours or less and earn below the maximum gross benefit rate, excluding self-employment. Reductions are applied in increments based on weekly hours, not daily work.

Part-time workers may get full or partial unemployment benefits if their earnings are below their weekly benefit amount. A part-time job usually involves under 40 hours per week. You must report all gross wages when certifying benefits, including part-time pay before taxes or deductions, even if it’s less than your weekly benefit.
