U.S. part-time workers can often receive partial unemployment benefits if their hours or pay were cut involuntarily or if they took part-time work while seeking full-time employment. You must report all gross wages weekly. Benefits decrease with income, but some payments may still be received, which can lengthen your benefit period.

Under New York’s updated partial unemployment rules, you can work seven days a week without losing full benefits if your weekly hours are 30 or fewer and your earnings remain below the maximum gross benefit rate, excluding self-employment. Benefits are reduced in increments based on total weekly hours, not per day.

Earnings from part-time work under your weekly unemployment benefit may still allow you to receive full or partial payments. Part-time usually means working less than 40 hours per week. When certifying, report all gross wages, including part-time income before taxes or deductions, even if it seems below your weekly benefit.
