Part-time employees in the U.S. may be eligible for partial unemployment benefits if their hours or pay were reduced involuntarily or if they accepted part-time work while seeking full-time employment. Weekly reporting of all gross income is necessary. Benefits are reduced based on earnings, but partial payments may still be received, extending the total benefit duration.

Under New York’s new partial unemployment rules, full benefits remain if you work 30 hours or less in a week and earn under the maximum gross benefit rate, excluding self-employment. You can work up to seven days, and benefit reductions now occur in increments based on total weekly hours rather than daily work.

You may qualify for full or partial unemployment benefits if your part-time wages are below your weekly benefit. Part-time work typically means under 40 hours per week. When certifying, report all gross wages, including part-time pay before taxes or deductions, even if it seems lower than your weekly benefit amount.
