Will the battery of an electric vehicle be damaged if left idle for a year?

Yes. Even if the vehicle is not started, the power battery pack of a pure electric vehicle will still experience degradation. Over time, the internal energy storage capacity of the power battery pack decreases significantly. Once the reversible materials inside the battery pack are damaged, the energy storage capacity will naturally decline, thereby affecting the lifespan of the power battery pack. In addition to the power battery pack, the vehicle's auxiliary battery (12V battery) may also suffer from discharge if left unused for a long time, leading to potential damage. Here are some precautions: 1. Disconnect the battery: For new energy vehicles (and even fuel-powered vehicles) that will not be used for an extended period, it is advisable to disconnect the terminals of the 12V battery to prevent discharge and avoid failure to start the vehicle. 2. Avoid outdoor parking: Whenever possible, choose a clean indoor parking space to avoid prolonged exposure to outdoor conditions, as sunlight and rain can accelerate the aging of rubber components (such as high and low-voltage cables).
