Will engine oil burn when exposed to an open flame?

Engine oil generally does not burn when exposed to an open flame, provided there are no flammable attachments present. Since engine oil itself is flammable, it will ignite if it carries any attachments with an open flame. For safety reasons, it is advisable to avoid exposing engine oil to open flames. Engine oil, also known as engine lubricant, serves multiple functions such as lubrication and friction reduction, auxiliary cooling, sealing and leak prevention, rust and corrosion protection, as well as shock absorption and cushioning. Engine oil consists of two main components: base oil and additives. The base oil is the primary constituent of lubricating oil, determining its fundamental properties, while additives compensate for and enhance the shortcomings of the base oil, imparting certain new characteristics, making them an essential part of lubricating oil.
