Why is there a sponge in a motorcycle fuel tank?

Placing a sponge in a motorcycle fuel tank is to prevent fuel from sloshing inside the tank on bumpy roads, which could interrupt the fuel pump's supply. Meaning of fuel tank: A fuel tank is a container for storing fuel on aircraft or vehicles, specifically designed to hold hydraulic oil or fluid in hydraulic systems. Fuel tanks can be categorized into open-type and closed-type. The tank must have sufficient capacity; the suction pipe and return pipe should extend below the minimum liquid level to prevent air suction and splashing of returning oil, which can create bubbles. The distance between the suction pipe and return pipe should be as far apart as possible, with a partition installed in between. To maintain oil cleanliness, the tank should have a sealed cover with an air filter. The bottom of the tank should be at least 150mm above the ground. Adequate attention must be given to the anti-corrosion treatment of the tank's inner surface. Purpose of fuel tank: In a hydraulic system, besides storing oil, the fuel tank also serves to dissipate heat, separate air bubbles from the oil, and settle impurities. Many auxiliary components are installed in the tank, such as coolers, heaters, air filters, and liquid level gauges.
