Besturn B50 water not circulating is mainly caused by the following reasons. Electrical circuit failure: The electronic cooling fan does not rotate, reducing the radiator's heat dissipation capacity. Check the operation of the electronic fan. Unplug the electronic fan's wire connector and supply power directly with a power line. If the electronic fan rotates, it indicates it is working properly; if it does not rotate, it indicates damage. Check the relay and its circuit condition. If the fan rotates, the circuit is intact and powered, then the relay is damaged or failed. If all the above checks are good, it indicates that the temperature sensor or its probe is damaged. When the air conditioning is not in use, the water temperature is normal; when the air conditioning is turned on, the water temperature rises significantly. This fault is generally caused by the electronic fan of the air conditioning radiator not rotating or the relay failing or being damaged. The inspection method is the same as above. Mechanical failure: The fan coupling lacks oil, is damaged, or stuck, causing the cooling fan not to rotate; when the engine runs for a long time, the water temperature is high or even boils. This is generally caused by the thermostat failing, resulting in poor water circulation. After the water temperature rises, the thermostat valve does not open, and the cooling water does not have a large circulation, thus failing to dissipate heat and regulate the water temperature. In tropical areas of southern China or in emergencies, the thermostat valve can be removed; the water pump belt is loose or the water pump is damaged, leading to no circulating water.

I've been driving this car for over a decade and have encountered several instances of water circulation failure. The main issues usually stem from either the water pump or thermostat. For models like the Besturn B50, the water pump tends to age with prolonged use, where blade wear or bearing seizure can impede water circulation. If the thermostat gets stuck in the closed position, it can also block coolant flow. Additionally, excessive debris in the radiator or a non-functioning fan can cause the cooling system to fail. I recommend first letting the engine cool down, then checking the coolant level to see if it's low or contains air bubbles. If everything seems fine, have an assistant start the engine while you check for vibrations in the hoses—vibrations indicate the water pump is working but circulation is poor. In such cases, it's best to visit a professional shop for part replacements to prevent engine overheating or cylinder damage. Regular radiator cleaning can help avoid blockages.

Don't panic if the coolant isn't circulating. If you notice the coolant isn't flowing and the temperature gauge keeps rising while driving your Besturn B50, you must pull over immediately and wait for the engine to cool down. Otherwise, it could lead to engine damage. From what I've seen, common causes include a stuck thermostat or a faulty water pump. The thermostat controls the opening and closing of the coolant passage—if it fails, the coolant gets blocked. A broken water pump stops circulating altogether. Additionally, check if the coolant has leaked out or if the radiator is clogged. The fan might also be stuck and not cooling properly. If you're trying to fix it yourself, start by refilling with fresh coolant. If that doesn't work, don't push your luck—head straight to a repair shop to check the pressure or replace parts. Safety first—don't take risks on the highway.

The main fault points for water not circulating are in three areas: the water pump not working prevents the coolant from being pushed, causing the coolant circulation to stall; the thermostat being stuck closed blocks the water flow channel; and the radiator being clogged or the fan malfunctioning leads to poor heat dissipation. The Besturn B50's cooling system is designed simply, but these issues can cause the engine to overheat. During inspection, check whether the coolant level is appropriate and if there are any leaks in the radiator pipes. It is recommended to repair these issues promptly to avoid engine damage.
