Why is the steering gear so heavy?
1 Answers
The steering gear is heavy due to deformation of the steering knuckle arm, or lack of oil or damage to the steering knuckle thrust bearing. Function of the steering gear: The steering gear, also known as the steering box, is the most important component of a car's steering function. The steering systems currently installed in cars can generally be divided into mechanical steering gears, mechanical hydraulic power steering systems, electro-hydraulic power steering systems, and electric power steering systems. Symptoms of steering gear damage: Difficulty in returning the steering wheel to its original position or a slow return speed indicates a malfunction in the return function, which usually occurs in the mechanical part of the steering system. If the car tends to drift to one side when driving on a cambered road, it is likely that a mechanical component of the steering gear is loose or broken.
