Why is the Escort called the Forester?

Ford's "ESCORT" is named "Forester" in Chinese and is a compact sedan under the Ford brand. In fact, the Escort was the predecessor to the Focus, with the two names completing their "handover" in 2002. Escort means escort, guard, or accompany, possibly indicating the manufacturer's hope that this car would provide excellent companionship for consumers.
