Why is the car emitting white smoke?

When a car emits white smoke, it is usually due to excessive moisture in the gasoline or a damaged seal in the water channel. Below are the reasons for different types of smoke from a car: Blue Smoke: If the car emits blue smoke, it can generally be concluded that the car is burning engine oil. The main reason for blue smoke is that the oil-gas mixture in the cylinder (note: not gasoline) is contaminated by engine oil vapor. When the oil vapor burns, it produces a very light blue smoke. Due to its light color, it is often confused with white smoke, so careful identification is necessary. White Smoke: If the car is a turbocharged model, another possible cause is damage to the oil seal ring on the exhaust side of the turbocharger. Engine oil leaks into the exhaust pipe and burns, forming white smoke.
I've been working in auto repair for over a decade, and white smoke from the exhaust pipe is most commonly caused by cooling system failures. Aging or damaged cylinder head gaskets allow coolant to leak into the combustion chamber, where it turns into white smoke when heated; alternatively, cracks in the engine block can let rainwater or coolant mix in, producing similar effects. I recall helping someone repair their car last year—the smoke was billowing out. After careful inspection, we found a cracked cylinder head gasket, with white smoke continuously appearing at idle along with decreasing coolant levels. Weather effects can't be ignored either: a small amount of white smoke during cold starts is just water vapor condensing, which is normal. But if the smoke is excessive, persistent, and has a sweet smell (a sign of burning coolant), it's serious. You should stop the car immediately and check: see if the coolant is below the marked level, if there's white foam on the oil cap (a sign of water ingress), or if the engine is overheating. Delaying repairs could lead to complete engine failure, doubling the cost, so I always recommend taking the car to a professional shop for diagnosis and repair as soon as possible.
