Geely Vision not moving when shifted to D gear is caused by automatic transmission oil pan leakage or not stepping on the accelerator. Automatic transmission oil pan leakage: The linkage or cable between the control handle and the manual valve rocker arm is loose, the manual valve remains in neutral or parking position, the oil pump inlet filter screen is clogged, the main oil circuit is severely leaking, or the oil pump is damaged. Not stepping on the accelerator: Some automatic transmission cars can move when shifted to D gear and the brake is released, while some automatic transmissions do not move when shifted to D gear and the brake is released, requiring stepping on the accelerator to move. This is actually related to the type of transmission power coupling device. After shifting to D gear, the clutch remains disengaged, and the power is not transmitted, so the car does not move. When the accelerator is pressed, the clutch gradually tightens, and the power can be transmitted, at which point the vehicle begins to move forward.

I've also experienced the issue of the car not moving when shifted to D gear. At first, I thought the transmission was done for, but the inspection revealed the transmission fluid had long deteriorated. If the fluid turns black or is insufficient, the entire shifting system can fail. I later learned that the Geely Vision's transmission requires regular maintenance, otherwise the precision valves in the valve body can get clogged with sludge. Then there are the clutch plates - over time they wear down like the soles of shoes and can't grip the power properly. If the engine revs suddenly spike when you shift but the car doesn't move, it's likely clutch slippage. Poor coordination between the turbine and pump in the torque converter can also cause this. Especially for older cars - if you haven't changed the transmission fluid after 60,000 km, get it checked at a professional shop immediately. Never force it to drive, or you might face much costlier repairs later.

Don't panic if your car doesn't move in Drive mode. Last time I did some basic checks myself. First, make sure the handbrake is fully released – beginners often forget this. Then listen to the engine sound when starting; if the RPM is unstable or there's shaking, it might be due to cylinder misfiring causing power loss. Check the dashboard for warning lights, especially the transmission warning light. Try shifting to other gears; if Reverse doesn't work either, it's likely a transmission issue. Remember to inspect the brake switch – it's near the pedal. If it's faulty, the transmission might think you're pressing the brake. Finally, check under the car for any leaks in the driveshaft or loose connections, which can prevent power transfer. These are all preliminary checks you can do yourself.

I've encountered many Geely Vision owners reporting this issue during repairs. The focus should be on checking the electronic control system, especially the gear position switch. This plastic component is located below the gear lever, and prolonged use can cause contact oxidation, preventing signals from reaching the transmission computer. Also inspect the vehicle speed sensor - if it fails, the transmission won't know how much torque to output. Check the brake light switch too; this small metal switch connects to the brake pedal, and damage can make the transmission misinterpret it as continuous braking. Additionally, the transmission control module itself might malfunction, locking gears when its programming gets disrupted. For these electronic components, it's best to use a diagnostic scanner to read trouble codes and precisely identify the faulty part before replacement.

Failure to move in D gear is mostly a transmission issue. Insufficient transmission fluid can lead to inadequate pressure, preventing the clutch pack from engaging. First, check the dipstick level; if the fluid is black or has a burnt smell, it must be replaced immediately. Sticking solenoids are also common, especially when the 2-3 gear solenoid fails, making the car feel like it's in neutral. Wear in the plungers within the hydraulic valve body can cause oil pressure leaks. Additionally, a faulty input shaft sensor will prevent the computer from receiving speed signals. If the car moves when cold but not when hot, it's likely due to aging internal seals. It's recommended to first test the oil pressure, with normal values between 40-80 psi. If the pressure is below this range, a major repair is necessary.
