There are three main forms of GPF arrangement on the gasoline engine exhaust pipe. One is integrated with the TWC and installed close to the exhaust manifold, known as the closed-coupled arrangement. Another is installed directly downstream of the TWC, known as the under-floor arrangement. There is also a method where the three-way catalyst is coated on the GPF substrate to form a "four-way catalyst." 4. After prolonged use of the particulate filter, soot particles accumulate on the surface of the filter's micropores, forming a PM layer, which gradually reduces the storage volume. The formation of the PM layer helps improve filtration efficiency, but a throttling effect occurs in the exhaust pipe, increasing exhaust flow resistance, leading to increased fuel consumption and reduced engine output power. At this point, the GPF needs to be replaced or regenerated.
