1998 Yamaha Lingying was fully imported. Introduction to Yamaha Lingying: Yamaha Lingying was a 125cc scooter model introduced by Yamaha in the late 1990s in China. It gained unanimous recognition from consumers for its excellent quality and strong power, though it also had the drawback of high fuel consumption. The prototype of the Yamaha Lingying 125 was the Xinguang 125 produced by Taiwan Yamaha. Differences between Lingying and Xinguang: The engine code of Xinguang 125 is 4Cw, and its engine sound is strong and crisp; the engine code of Lingying 125 is 4kl, and its engine sound is quieter with faster acceleration.

I remember the Lingying 125 models around 1995 were assembled with fully imported parts, even the engine cylinder head was stamped with 'JAPAN'. The most authentic ones were those from 1994 to 1996, with exceptionally neat frame welding spots, Mikuni carburetors, and YAMAHA embossed logos inside the headlight covers. However, after 1996, Taiwan-made parts gradually appeared. To identify fully imported models, you need to check the frame number—those starting with 'L' are fully imported. The current second-hand market is quite murky; some dealers sell later domestic versions as imported bikes by just changing the badges. Remember to bring a flashlight to check the key component serial numbers.

The Yamaha Ling Ying pure imports were mainly concentrated in the years 1994-1996, which was particularly noticeable when we worked on these old bikes in the past. The imported version had a square air filter box, while the domestic version was changed to a round one. The imported front suspension had dust covers, and the instrument panel with its blue background and white characters was exceptionally clear. Last year, I even helped a fellow rider inspect a 1995 model. When we opened the seat bucket, we saw the original Denso rectifier, and not even a single screw had been replaced. Nowadays, if you're looking to hunt down one of these old bikes, remember to check the stamped steel mark on the inside of the fuel tank cap.

Veteran scooter enthusiasts are well aware that the first-generation Lingying from early 1994 was truly fully imported. Those early models featured smooth front fenders without anti-slip patterns, turn signal brackets secured with dual screws, and even the shape of the transmission case vents differed from later versions. Unfortunately, very few survive today, with most seen being transitional 1995-96 models assembled from imported components. Recently on motorcycle forums, someone posted about acquiring a completely original 1994 model for just 8,000 yuan, with even the seat leather grain perfectly preserved - truly a treasure find.
