Compact SUVs generally offer more space than small SUVs. Small SUVs typically have a vehicle length ranging between 3850-4350mm and a wheelbase of less than 2670mm. Compact SUVs, on the other hand, usually measure between 4300-4750mm in length with a wheelbase of 2600-2760mm. Compact SUVs fundamentally leverage the multi-functional carrying capacity of SUV models. Advantages of SUV models include: 1. Spaciousness: SUVs in the same class are significantly larger than sedans. Besides ample legroom, due to their body shape and higher center of gravity, SUVs provide more lateral space and headroom compared to sedans of the same class, resulting in a more comfortable ride and better visibility. 2. Superior Off-road Capability: SUVs have better off-road performance than sedans. With frequent road construction and some areas having unpaved roads, choosing an SUV helps avoid damage to the undercarriage. 3. Better Long-distance Visibility: SUV drivers sit higher, offering a more expansive view of the road ahead. 4. Practical Trunk Space: As hatchback-style vehicles, SUVs not only make it easier to access items in the trunk but also provide more usable cargo space.

From my perspective, compact SUVs generally offer significantly more space than subcompact SUVs. I've driven various SUVs myself, like the Honda CR-V, which is a compact model. Its rear seats and cargo area are quite spacious—comfortably seating three friends without feeling cramped and easily accommodating two large suitcases. In contrast, subcompact SUVs like the Mazda CX-3 are much tighter, with a trunk that fits only a few backpacks and limited legroom in the rear, making them better suited for city commuting but less practical overall. Compact SUVs are designed with interior space in mind, providing ample headroom and legroom, making weekend trips with camping gear effortless. I've compared the two types side by side, and the difference in space is immediately noticeable. While subcompact SUVs are more fuel-efficient and easier to park, if you frequently travel with family or go shopping, the space advantage of a compact SUV becomes clear, offering greater comfort and convenience overall.

As a homemaker, I'm particularly sensitive to SUV space since we often travel with our children. The space in a compact SUV is definitely larger than that in a small SUV. Our family uses the Skoda Kodiaq, and the rear can accommodate a stroller and shopping piles without feeling cramped. Small SUVs like the Hyundai Encino are much smaller—during the test drive, the trunk couldn't even fit a foldable baby crib, and with two child seats installed in the back, there was no room left for passengers. The interior height and width of a compact SUV are more generous, giving children enough space to move around without fussing, which is a huge relief. Before buying, I visited many dealerships, and space testing was key. Though small SUVs are sleek and stylish, they fall short in practicality. The advantage of more space is especially evident during daily shopping or long trips, so a compact SUV is my top recommendation.

Having driven for over a decade and tried various SUVs, I can confidently say that compact SUVs offer more space than subcompact SUVs. Subcompact SUVs like the Kia Soul feel cramped inside, with limited legroom and a small trunk that fills up quickly with just a few items. In contrast, compact SUVs such as the Volkswagen Tiguan can transform into a mini-truck with the rear seats folded down, making it easy to load and unload large items. The difference in space isn’t just about specs—it’s immediately noticeable when you sit inside: more headroom and legroom. Subcompact SUVs are ideal for singles or short trips, while compact SUVs handle diverse scenarios with ease. During test drives across different brands, this space advantage was consistently evident. Based on my experience, compact SUVs are the better choice, offering both driving comfort and practicality.
