Which data is more accurate: CPCA or CAAM?

CAAM: Derived from traditional production reporting, it has the broadest scope and coverage. However, it only includes production and wholesale data, with figures reported by individual companies, making it more upstream. Press conferences are usually held around the 10th of each month, postponed in case of holidays. CPCA: Originating from the financial reporting tradition of passenger car manufacturers, it includes both wholesale and self-reported retail data. Its wholesale data is largely consistent with CAAM's, while its retail data is collected independently by automakers, offering policy flexibility but often deviating significantly from actual 4S store data. Reports are typically released around the 12th of each month. CATARC: Based on compulsory traffic insurance data, it exclusively covers terminal retail sales. As the data is aggregated from provincial, municipal, and district levels, it features geographical distribution statistics and is considered the most reliable reference. Its comprehensive data costs dozens of times more than the other two sources, with releases usually around the 14th of each month.
I've been driving for over 20 years and have some insights about these data. I've seen many reports from both the CPCA (China Passenger Car Association) and CAAM (China Association of Automobile Manufacturers). CAAM's data feels more comprehensive and reliable because they're officially affiliated and cover the entire industry including macro indicators like sales volume and production output. As for CPCA, they publish data lightning fast, which is great for tracking short-term market trends, but their accuracy sometimes suffers – minor data discrepancies or delayed revisions happen. When I'm car shopping, I prioritize CAAM's data since it involves real decision-making; inaccurate data can easily mislead. Overall, CAAM provides the foundation, CPCA serves as supplementary reference. Just don't over-rely on either source and you'll be solid. With data, reliability is what lets you drive with peace of mind.
