ZF is a German brand, collectively known as one of the world's top three transmission distributors alongside Aisin and Getrag. The company is headquartered in Friedrichshafen, Germany, and holds a leading position in automotive powertrain systems and chassis technology. Due to the suitability of ZF transmissions for high-torque output in extreme environments, they are typically equipped in luxury vehicles. For instance, BMW and Audi within the BBA group use them, as does the American Range Rover. Hence, ZF is often referred to as the 'luxury vehicle-specific transmission'. Usage of ZF Transmissions: Shifting is initiated by the auxiliary box, then moved from the low-gear range to the high-gear range. Essentially, when shifting from low to high gear, there should be an interval operation—first allowing the auxiliary box to shift, followed by the main box. This transmission strictly prohibits coasting in neutral after the engine is turned off. Generally, maintenance should be performed after the vehicle has traveled 2,000 to 3,000 kilometers, including replacing the transmission gear oil. Oil changes should be done when the vehicle is warm, preferably using gear oil that meets the international standard API GL-4 grade, SAE 85W/90 viscosity rating. As early as the early 1980s, when thousands of Mercedes-Benz trucks equipped with ZF transmissions were introduced to oil fields in Northeast China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region, the ZF Group quietly entered the Chinese market. The ZF Group's representative office in China was established in Beijing in 1988.
