MG is a British car model, known as 'MG' in China. It was created by William Morris in the UK and has now been fully acquired by SAIC Motor, becoming one of its automotive brands. The full name of MG is Morris Garages, a British car brand with a long history. In March 1924, William Morris successfully manufactured the world's first four-door car with a central chassis in the UK and named it the MG car. On July 22, 2005, Nanjing Automobile Group Co., Ltd. successfully acquired the British MG Rover Group and its engine production division. In April 2007, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC Motor) fully acquired Nanjing Automobile Group, and since then, the MG brand has been owned by SAIC Motor. The MG logo features an octagonal outer ring with the letters 'MG' inside. Current MG car products are sold both domestically in China and internationally. The currently available MG models include: MG6, MG HS, MG ZS, MG GS, MG3, MG GT, and MG6 Plug-in Hybrid.
Previously, my impression of the MG brand was still stuck in the image of British sports cars from old movies. Later, after researching, I discovered it has evolved into a Sino-British hybrid. MG was originally founded in 1924 in Oxford, UK, as Morris Garages, with classics like the MGB Roadster being icons of that era. However, after several ownership changes, it is now primarily under China's SAIC Motor. Interestingly, SAIC has not only preserved its sports car DNA but also injected new vitality into MG. For instance, the new MG4 electric car my friend bought last year still features a handling system tuned by a British team. It's quite remarkable that a car manufactured in a Chinese factory achieved a 5-star Euro NCAP rating—no wonder you can see MG-badged electric cars running on British streets.
