Changan Automobile has relatively few models equipped with the Blue Whale engine, including only the Changan CS75 PLUS, Changan CS35 PLUS Blue Whale Edition, and Eado Blue Whale Edition. This is because Changan primarily focuses on small-displacement vehicles, typically ranging between 1.5L to 2.0L. However, there aren't many models requiring 2.0L powertrains, resulting in a relatively low installation rate of Blue Whale engines across Changan's vehicle lineup. The development motivation behind Changan's Blue Whale engine broke away from traditional reverse-engineering approaches, adhering instead to independent R&D. In the UK, Changan's Engine R&D Center completed a six-year development process for the Blue Whale 2.0TGDI engine, breaking foreign companies' technological monopolies and filling the domestic gap in development capabilities for 2.0L and above turbocharged direct-injection engines. During the R&D process, Changan applied for 74 patents, including 24 invention patents. This engine, codenamed D20TGDI, has undergone testing through Changan's internationally standardized quality verification system CA-TVS. It completed 7,930 hours of bench reliability testing (pre-production testing) and over 1.5 million kilometers of road reliability testing across four-wheel prototypes, ensuring its capability to handle various common and extreme operating conditions.
