Qoros was actually a brand jointly developed by Chery and Israel Corporation. They teamed up to establish Qoros Auto back in 2007, marking the first time a Chinese automaker deeply collaborated with foreign capital to create an independent brand. I remember they initially set up an R&D center in Changshu, hiring many European designers and engineers, making it quite impressive. However, the market response was consistently poor, with new models struggling to sell, eventually leading to financial troubles. A few years ago, it was taken over by Baoneng Group and now operates under their umbrella. Recently, there's been talk about transitioning to new energy vehicles. Over the years, Qoros has had a bumpy ride, from ambitious beginnings to heavy debt, serving as a classic case of China's automotive overseas cooperation.

As someone who follows Sino-foreign joint venture automakers, I find Qoros quite interesting. When it was born in 2007, it was already a Sino-foreign hybrid - with Chinese partner Chery Automobile and foreign partner an Israeli investment company. Its positioning was very clear: to build cars that meet European standards. The sedan it launched at that time even received a five-star Euro NCAP rating. Unfortunately, its marketing was terrible, and the pricing was set too high, making it unappealing to ordinary consumers. I've seen their concept cars at auto shows, and the designs were truly avant-garde, but they just couldn't crack the market. When Baoneng acquired it, I thought there might be a turnaround, but the new car updates couldn't keep up. Now Qoros cars are becoming increasingly rare on the streets, and I've heard many 4S stores have closed. It's a pity for such a good foundation.

Qoros is now owned by Baoneng, but many people don't know its original story. In 2007, Chery partnered with Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer to create this brand, which was touted as targeting the mid-to-high-end market at the time. Their factory in Jiangsu had significant investments, with production lines meeting European standards. The first model, the Qoros 3, made a grand debut in 2013 with a James Bond actor as its spokesperson. However, the brand has been losing money for years, and Baoneng's takeover in 2018 failed to turn things around. Recent news suggests they're working on electric vehicles, but no specific models have materialized yet. Overall, this brand started early but progressed slowly, failing to leverage its hybrid heritage effectively.
