Wuhan Traffic Police Brigade conducts the test. The E license allows riding any displacement two-wheel motorcycles, regardless of engine size, while the D license permits operating three-wheel motorcycles. Below is an introduction to the motorcycle license test subjects: Subject 1: Traffic driving theory test, 100 questions with 1 point each, passing score is 90. Subject 2: Field test, mainly assessing left right-angle turns, slalom, single-plank bridge, hill start, etc. Subject 3: Road test, evaluating the rider's practical driving awareness and skills. Subject 4: Traffic driving theory test, 50 questions with 2 points each, passing score is 90.
When I took the motorcycle license test in Wuhan, I did thorough preparation. First, you need to register at the Vehicle Management Office—there are six designated locations in the city: the Jiangnan Branch Office on Youyi Avenue in Wuchang, the Jiangbei Branch Office on Shuangdun in Hankou, as well as branch offices in Zhuankou, Jiangxia, and other districts. Before registering, you must undergo a medical check-up at a hospital and prepare your original ID card and photos. If you have a non-local household registration, you’ll also need to bring your residence permit. The theoretical test (Subject 1) is taken in the computer room at the Vehicle Management Office—remember to practice with the driving test question bank in advance. Subjects 2 and 3 are conducted in their designated enclosed test sites, such as the Chenjiaji test site in Jiang’an District, which has a dedicated motorcycle testing area. The whole process took me about a month. I recommend avoiding taking the test in summer—standing in line under the sun wearing protective gear isn’t pleasant.
