Where to Stick the OBU?

Typically, the ETC OBU is installed behind the rearview mirror or in the middle position of the windshield. Here is relevant information: 1. The Electronic Toll Collection System (ETC) is a fully automatic toll collection system that enables vehicles to pay highway tolls without stopping by communicating with microwave equipment in ETC lanes through "on-board electronic tags + IC cards." 2. By applying combined networked electronic toll collection technology at highway toll stations, the highway electronic toll collection system improves the traffic capacity of toll stations, alleviates congestion, and provides highway users with safe and convenient electronic payment and passage services. Using the electronic toll collection system can reduce vehicle wear and fuel consumption, decrease air pollution, achieve energy savings and emission reductions, and benefit environmental protection.
When I installed that little ETC box back then, I stuck it right at the top center of the windshield, near the area below the rearview mirror. Because the toll antenna's signal needs a straight-line penetration, placing it there minimizes interference and ensures fast recognition. Before installation, be sure to thoroughly clean the glass surface—use a clean cloth dampened with water to wipe away dust and grease, then wait for it to dry before applying the adhesive. Never choose an area with black dots or film, as the signal may lag. A high position doesn’t affect driving, but if it’s too low, it can block your view and create danger. I made a mistake once by sticking it in the lower left corner, and the toll gate’s slow response forced me to decelerate—way too troublesome. Later, an expert told me that for SUVs with larger windshields, it can be slightly off-center but should still prioritize the middle. Before every highway trip, I’d touch the box to confirm it hadn’t loosened—after all, if it falls off, you’ll have to reapply the tape, which is both costly and annoying.
