Annual inspection stickers can be obtained at the vehicle office. If the vehicle is a newly purchased car, you can go to the local vehicle management office to get it. For vehicles eligible for the 6-year exemption from inspection, you need to collect the sticker every two years at the vehicle management office. For older vehicles, you must bring documents such as the driver's license and vehicle registration certificate to the vehicle management office to receive the sticker after the vehicle passes the inspection line. Every newly purchased vehicle must go through the vehicle inspection line, and only after passing the inspection can you obtain the annual inspection sticker. Currently, new seven-seater vehicles still need to undergo inspection at the inspection line every two years. Only privately owned vehicles with seven seats or fewer are eligible for the six-year exemption from on-site inspection policy. Annual inspection refers to the safety inspection conducted annually or biennially, which includes a comprehensive check of components such as the horn, brakes, axle weight, chassis, ignition system, lighting system, exhaust system, and license plate installation.

I'm the kind of person who prefers going to the vehicle office in person, feeling most at ease when handling things on-site. Last year, I went to our district's vehicle management office to collect the annual inspection sticker. All I needed was the original vehicle license and a copy of the compulsory traffic insurance policy. I remember also needing my ID card and the motor vehicle registration certificate. If you can't find the registration certificate, you can get a reprint at the counter. Nowadays, the halls are equipped with self-service machines where you can swipe your ID card to print the inspection compliance sticker, so there's no need to queue up like in the past. Once done, you can stick it on the upper right corner of the windshield right away, and the staff will show you how to do it. If you don't want to go offline, you can also apply through the traffic management app 12123 on your phone, but I always worry about potential online issues causing delays.

Using the 12123 APP to get the electronic inspection sticker is super convenient. I just did it last month. First, log in to the APP and enter the vehicle services section, then select the option to apply for the inspection sticker. When uploading photos of the electronic policy, make sure the VIN and policy details are clearly visible, as the system will automatically recognize the data. Once approved, you'll receive an SMS notification, and then you can view the electronic version of the annual inspection sticker in the driver's license section of the APP. Current traffic regulations state that electronic stickers hold the same validity as paper ones. Police can verify them by scanning the code during checks, so there's no need to stick that paper on the windshield anymore. However, vehicles older than six years still need to undergo an offline inspection to get the sticker.

A police-post service station has opened near our community, allowing us to collect the annual inspection sticker without going to the vehicle office. Just bring your vehicle license and ID card, and they can also help pay the vehicle and vessel tax on-site. The staff will assist with the online application, and the printed sticker comes with an anti-counterfeiting code. These service points are also open on weekends, making them especially convenient for working professionals who don’t need to take time off. Note that you must wait for the new insurance policy to take effect before applying for the annual inspection sticker after renewing your insurance; otherwise, the system won’t be able to verify the validity period.

I just picked up the annual inspection sticker for my wife's car at the testing station, which offers a one-stop service. After the vehicle passes the inspection, don't rush to leave. Present the inspection report at the service window, and the staff will print the inspection compliance sticker on the spot. The whole process takes less than 10 minutes, saving half a day compared to making a separate trip to the DMV. Remember to bring a copy of the valid compulsory traffic policy. If the insurance company didn't provide a paper copy, you can use the electronic version stored on your phone. Some testing stations can also help apply for the electronic version and directly link it to your 12123 account.

Going directly to the traffic police station window is the most hassle-free way. I did it this way last year. Bring three essential items: the original ID card of the vehicle owner, the vehicle registration certificate, and the valid compulsory traffic policy. After verifying the information at the window, the new annual inspection sticker was handed out in just a minute. Remember to clear all traffic violations in advance, otherwise, they won't process it. Under the new policy, vehicles exempt from inspection within six years don't need to go for an on-site check; it's even simpler to apply for an electronic sticker directly on the 12123 app. However, my older car requires an annual emissions test, so I need to get a physical sticker.
