The most reliable places to find cheap car parts are online marketplaces, local junkyards (self-service auto recyclers), and aftermarket parts retailers. Your choice depends on the balance you want between cost, part condition, and speed. For used OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts, junkyards and online salvage networks are unbeatable on price. For new, affordable alternatives, aftermarket brands from retailers like RockAuto offer significant savings over dealership prices.

Online Marketplaces (e.g., eBay, RockAuto) These platforms are your best bet for comparison shopping. You can find everything from used OEM parts to new aftermarket components. Sites like RockAuto aggregate dozens of brands, allowing you to choose between budget-friendly economy parts or more premium options. Always check seller ratings and return policies.

Local Junkyards / Self-Service Yards For major components like doors, fenders, or engines, nothing beats a self-service yard. You remove the part yourself, which drastically cuts the cost. This is ideal for common car models where parts are plentiful. Call ahead to see if they have your vehicle in their inventory.

Aftermarket Retailers (e.g., AutoZone, Advance Auto Parts) These stores offer new parts that are often cheaper than OEM. They frequently have online coupon codes for additional savings (like 20% off) and offer free in-store pickup. Their house brands provide a good balance of cost and warranty coverage for everyday items like batteries and brake pads.

Don't sleep on your local pick-and-pull junkyard. It's seriously the cheapest way to get big parts like a fender or a seat. You show up with your own tools, pay a small entry fee, and pull what you need. I found a perfect passenger door for my old Civic for $50. Just check their website first to see if they have your car model on the lot. It’s a bit of work, but the savings are real.

As a guy who’s been fixing up my own trucks for years, my go-to is RockAuto online. Their website isn't fancy, but the prices can't be beat. You type in your car's info and it shows you a list of parts from the super cheap economy line to the more premium brands. I always compare a few options. The shipping can add up, so I try to order a few things at once. It’s saved me a fortune on everything from spark plugs to alternators.

Can the car run the air conditioner while idling?

Yes, the car can run the air conditioner while idling. However, it is not advisable to keep the air conditioner on for too long during idling, as it may have the following effects: 1. Increased fuel consumption: The car already consumes fuel while idling, and the operation of the air conditioner's compressor requires the engine to drive it, which will undoubtedly increase fuel consumption. 2. Shortened battery life: The air conditioner's blower is powered by the battery. When the car is idling, the battery's charging efficiency is relatively low, and the operation of the blower may lead to battery discharge. Prolonged battery discharge can shorten the battery's lifespan.
