Where to Apply for a Replacement License Plate If Lost?

Apply for a replacement license plate at the vehicle management office. According to Article 44 of the "Motor Vehicle Registration Regulations": If the motor vehicle license plate or registration certificate is lost, missing, or damaged, the vehicle owner shall apply for a replacement at the vehicle management office of the registration location. If the owner is an individual, the original and a copy of the owner's ID card and the vehicle registration certificate are required. Here are some important notes for license plate registration: 1. Vehicle certification is required for registration: When registering the vehicle at the vehicle management office, the vehicle certification must be submitted to the staff for archiving. 2. Purchase invoice is required for registration: Whether buying a car from a 4S store or an auto trader, the owner will receive a purchase invoice, which must be kept safely. Without this invoice, the vehicle cannot be registered. The purchase invoice must be submitted to the vehicle management office staff during registration and will also be archived.
I experienced losing my license plate last summer, and you can simply go to the DMV for a replacement. Remember to bring your ID card and the original vehicle registration. For company vehicles, you’ll also need to prepare the organization code certificate. I recommend arriving at the DMV by 8:30 AM to avoid crowds and skip the queue. After taking a number, fill out the motor vehicle license and plate application form in the service hall. The fee is just over 100 yuan, and you’ll receive a 15-day temporary plate on the spot after payment. The new plate usually arrives by mail in about 7 business days. When I reinstalled mine with stainless steel screws, I added some threadlocker to prevent it from loosening due to bumps. The whole process was actually quite smooth, but be sure to set aside half a day for it.
