The headlight height adjustment switch for the Avalon is located in the engine compartment. The method to adjust the headlight height of the Avalon is as follows: 1. Find a wall and park the car 10 meters away from it; 2. Measure the height from the ground to the center of the headlights and the distance between the two headlights; 3. Place horizontal masking tape on the wall at a position 0.1 meters lower than the headlights, ensuring the tape is at the exact center of the car; 4. Turn on the headlights and adjust the vertical adjustment screw until the headlight beam is centered on the tape on the wall; 5. Continue adjusting the vertical adjustment screw until the headlight beam is pointing straight ahead.

I've been driving the Avalon for almost three years, and there are mainly three places to adjust the headlight height. The most commonly used is the knob near the driver's left knee, marked with numbers 0123. When parked, turning it will show the lights moving up and down. Mid-to-high trim models also have an AUTO button above the glove box—turning it on lets the system adjust automatically based on load. Last time when the car was fully loaded with passengers and the trunk packed with luggage, I noticed the lights automatically lowered, which was indeed thoughtful design. Remember to check the low beam against a wall after adjustment—the beam cutoff should be at tire height to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic. Also, page 187 of the manual illustrates this very clearly; it's always good to refer to it if in doubt.

A friend who just picked up his Avalon asked me about this, and I did some research: Look for the protruding knob on the far left of the dashboard, below the steering wheel. The base model has a round mechanical knob that clicks when turned; the higher trim with auto-adjustment replaces it with a dial. Here’s the key—when adjusting, park on level ground, keep the car about 5 meters from a wall, turn on the low beams, and then adjust. I remember helping someone adjust it last winter—his car’s tail sank after installing ski racks, causing the headlights to aim too high. Turning the knob to the 0 setting fixed it. If the auto-adjustment fails, there’s also a white adjustment gear in the fuse box on the right side of the trunk for emergency use.

Adjusting the headlight height on the Avalon is quite straightforward. From the driver's seat, look down at the left side of the instrument panel to find a rotary knob with numbered scales: higher numbers correspond to higher beam positions. Use setting 3 when fully loaded, and select 0 when unloaded. Turn the key to the ON position without starting the engine for the most noticeable adjustment against a garage wall. In hybrid models with automatic mode, the sensor at the rearview mirror base constantly monitors the vehicle's angle for micro-adjustments, particularly noticeable during rainy days when the beam noticeably lowers. For vehicles with modified suspensions, it's recommended to readjust the headlights to avoid issues during annual inspections.
