Where is the Vehicle Frame Number Located?

Location of the vehicle frame number: Except for trailers and motorcycles, the frame number should be fixed on one of the door hinge pillar, door lock pillar, or the pillar on the door edge that connects with the door lock pillar, near the driver's seat. If such a location is not available, it will be fixed on the left side of the dashboard. If that is also not possible, it should be fixed on the inner side of the door near the driver's seat. The frame number is also known as the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), which consists of seventeen letters or numbers and can identify the car's manufacturer, engine, chassis serial number, and other performance data. To avoid confusion with the numbers 1, 0, and 9, the letters I, O, and Q are not used. There are mainly two formats for vehicle identification numbers: the first is the ISO 3779 standard adopted by the European Union, and the second standard is mainly used in North America, both of which are compatible with each other.
When it comes to locating a car's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), I've been through this several times as an experienced driver. The most common spot is the lower left corner of the driver's side windshield, attached to a small plastic plate—just bend down while standing to see it. If it's not there, open the front left door and check the sticker on the inner side of the B-pillar; the black-printed numbers are usually quite clear. It might also be on the engine hood, though it can get dirty and may need wiping. This 17-digit code is crucial—it's used for identifying the vehicle in sales transactions or insurance claims. When I helped a friend sell a used car, verifying the VIN in these spots confirmed the car's authenticity and avoided confusion. It's wise to take a photo and save it as a precaution, especially for older cars where information can easily be lost. Designs vary slightly across models—for example, SUVs might have it near the wheels—but most new and old cars place it in these easily accessible locations.
