The USB port in the older BMW 3 Series is located inside the center armrest. To play music from a USB drive: place songs on the USB drive, then you can play them by selecting the external USB device. While on the playback screen, press the 'Option' button to choose the music you want to play. A USB drive is a compact, high-capacity mobile storage device that uses a USB interface and doesn't require a physical drive. It connects to a computer via the USB port for plug-and-play functionality. Taking the 2019 BMW 3 Series 320i M Sport Package as an example: it is a mid-size sedan produced by BMW Brilliance, with dimensions of 4650mm in length, 1811mm in width, and 1454mm in height. It is equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine, delivering a maximum power of 135kW, and paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.

When I drove the older BMW 3 Series before, it did take some effort to locate the USB port. It's usually hidden inside the center armrest – you'll need to lift the armrest lid and feel for a small square port with a rubber cover at the front bottom. For E90 models (roughly 2006-2013), some versions might not have a direct USB port but instead use the round AUX port next to the ashtray with an adapter. Just be aware that some ports are charging-only and can't read USB data. If you want to play music, it's better to use the car's Bluetooth or CD player. If you still can't find it, check the inner wall of the glove compartment on the passenger side – some modified cars might have the port installed there. If all else fails, visit a BMW dealership and let the technicians help you locate it – they're very skilled at navigating these older models.

I've disassembled quite a few older BMW 3 Series models, and the USB port locations are quite interesting. The most common spot is inside the center armrest liner - you'll feel a small black block with a dust cover under your fingers. For pre-2008 models, there might not be a USB port at all. In that case, you'd need to use a cigarette lighter to USB adapter for charging, and for music transfer, you'd have to use the 3.5mm AUX-in port under the dashboard. For post-2007 models, you might occasionally find a USB port hidden on the inner side of the glove compartment, only visible when the glove box is open. A word of caution: older car circuits are prone to poor contact, so it's best to turn off the engine before plugging in a USB drive to avoid blowing a fuse.

Remember that in the older BMW E90 models, there's a small rubber-covered socket hidden in the front wall of the center console armrest. However, some base models require using a reserved port near the cigarette lighter to convert to USB. It's recommended to first check the owner's manual to confirm the configuration. If you can't find it, use an AUX cable to connect your phone and play music.
