The trunk switch of the Tiguan L is located below the driver's door armrest. Here are detailed introductions about the Tiguan L: 1. Overview: The Tiguan L is produced by SAIC Volkswagen, offering a total of 7 models equipped with 1.8T (330TSI) and 2.0T (380TSI) engines. It also provides 2 hybrid models: the Hybrid Luxury Edition and the Hybrid Flagship Edition. 2. Others: In terms of exterior design, the Tiguan L maintains a similar design to the overseas standard Tiguan model, featuring a clean and lively overall style. Compared to the standard wheelbase model, it adds chrome decorative elements. The C-pillar design has also been modified. The Tiguan L measures 4712/1839/1673mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2791mm.

The trunk switch of my Tiguan L is located right in the middle lower part of the tailgate. Just look down and you'll see a square plastic cover with some anti-slip texture. Besides this physical switch, you can also use the long-press function on the remote key. Actually, I later found out that if you have the factory-installed power tailgate, there's also a hands-free opening feature. Just swipe your foot under the bumper when the car is locked, and it opens—super handy when your hands are full. Some older models might have the switch integrated near the license plate light, but newer ones usually place it in the middle lower part of the tailgate for easy access. If the switch doesn't respond, first check if the doors are unlocked or if there's a minor issue like a blown fuse.

I usually can't be bothered to walk around to the rear, so using the key fob is super convenient. Just press and hold the trunk button (the one with the trunk symbol) for about two seconds, and the tailgate lifts up on its own—especially handy on rainy days. Once, though, it didn't respond no matter how many times I tried, only to realize later that the doors weren't unlocked or the gear wasn't in Park. Mid-to-high trim owners can also try the hands-free kick-to-open feature: stand directly behind the car with the key on you, sweep your foot under the rear bumper, and wait for the beep—it opens automatically. Oh, and that little button with the rear car icon in the door storage compartment works great too: press once to unlock all doors, then press twice to open the tailgate. Tested and confirmed!

The most convenient button in the front row is the one next to the driver's door storage compartment, marked with a driving icon. During traffic jams, you can easily press it with a simple reach when you need to grab something. However, many people overlook the dedicated trunk button on the right side, which features a car rear emblem. Pressing it once unlocks all doors, and quickly pressing it a second time pops open the trunk. The Tiguan L's infotainment system can also be set to open the tailgate with a single press—just adjust the setting in the menu. If it still doesn’t work, check if the trunk’s independent lock button was accidentally activated; it’s located near the inner handle of the tailgate.
