Where is the Tiguan fan control module located?

Tiguan fan control module is located at the R-frame and integrated with the electric fan: The electric fan control module is the control unit that regulates the operation of the electric fan. If the electric fan operates poorly or fails to operate, you can inspect the control module: 1. Visual inspection: Check the coil at the fan motor vent for any signs of burning. If there are burn marks, it indicates that the fan motor coil is burnt and cannot be used anymore. 2. Olfactory inspection: Check if there is any smell of burnt coil, melted plastic, or short-circuited wires. If there is a burnt smell, you can only replace the fan motor, new connecting wires, capacitors, etc. 3. Manual inspection: Rotate the shaft by hand to check its operation. If it rotates with difficulty or is not smooth, it indicates that the internal bearing is lacking oil or the rotor is rubbing. If rubbing occurs, while adding oil and cleaning, you also need to replace the bearings on both sides to eliminate the rubbing phenomenon. Feel the surface temperature with your hand; if the temperature rises too quickly or too high, it indicates a short circuit in the fan motor, and the fan motor needs to be replaced.
The fan control module for the Tiguan is usually installed next to the cooling fan assembly, to be more specific, behind the radiator, adjacent to the fan motor bracket. You'll need to crouch at the front of the car and look carefully, as it's sometimes covered by a dust shield or blocked by other pipelines. Remember to disconnect the negative terminal of the battery before operating. This module controls the switching between high and low speeds of the fan. If it fails, the fan won't function properly, and the engine coolant temperature will rise rapidly, leading to overheating, which is troublesome. Before starting, it's best to check the model year. For older Tiguan models, it's fixed on the radiator frame, while for the third-generation Tiguan L, due to higher integration, its position shifts slightly towards the passenger side. If you're not sure how to proceed, it's better not to force it apart and instead seek help from a repair shop for peace of mind.
