Where is the oil pressure sensor located on the EA211?

EA211's oil pressure sensor is bolted on the intake side, near the timing belt inside the cylinder head. Function of the oil pressure sensor: The oil pressure sensor is a crucial component for monitoring engine oil pressure in vehicles. The detected data assists in maintaining normal engine operation. When insufficient oil pressure is detected, it triggers a warning signal that illuminates the oil light on the dashboard. Common causes for low oil pressure warnings include: malfunctioning oil pressure switch, insufficient oil level, clogged oil pump screen, or damaged oil pump. Working principle of the oil pressure sensor: The oil pressure sensor is installed on the engine's main oil gallery. During engine operation, the pressure measurement device detects oil pressure and converts the pressure signal into an electrical signal sent to the signal processing circuit. After voltage and current amplification, the enhanced pressure signal is transmitted via signal wires to the oil pressure gauge. This alters the current ratio between two internal coils of the gauge, thereby displaying the engine's oil pressure. The amplified pressure signal is simultaneously compared with a preset alarm voltage in the warning circuit. When the signal falls below the alarm threshold, the circuit outputs a warning signal that activates the warning light through the alarm line.
When working in the workshop, I often encounter this issue. The oil pressure sensor of the EA211 engine is actually quite conspicuous. It is hidden near the oil filter housing, specifically on the lower right side of the engine block. After removing the engine cover, you can see a small cylindrical component with a wire connector—that's it. During installation, make sure the sensor plug is aligned correctly, and it's best to apply some sealant on the threads to prevent oil leakage. For some models, it may be located under the intake manifold, requiring the removal of the intake piping to access it. If this sensor fails, the oil warning light will flash, so it should be addressed promptly to avoid engine damage. When replacing it, remember to have a 27mm open-end wrench and a new O-ring seal ready.
