The OBD port of Citroen C5 is located inside the armrest box. Open the lid of the armrest box, and you will find a rectangular black cover inside. Open it to see the computer connector of Citroen C5. When a certain part of the vehicle malfunctions, the onboard computer will generate a fault code, which requires an external onboard diagnostic tool to access and clear through the OBD interface. The dimensions of the Citroen C5 are 4825mm in length, 1860mm in width, and 1480mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2815mm. The front of this car features a split upper and lower grille design, with elegant and beautiful line styling.

As an experienced auto mechanic, I've worked on many C5s. The OBD port is hidden near the left knee area of the driver's seat, specifically at the very bottom of the dashboard close to the steering column. If you bend down and feel around the lower left corner of the steering wheel, you'll find a trapezoidal 16-pin socket with a cover, usually labeled 'OBD-II'. In older C5 models, it might be concealed behind the storage compartment on the right side of the steering wheel, requiring removal of the small storage compartment panel. Avoid using your phone's flashlight when searching for the port, as you might accidentally interfere with the fuse box wiring. Always turn off the engine when connecting a diagnostic tool, as the port pins are particularly fragile. If the diagnostic tool fails to read data, check if the ignition switch isn't turned to the ACC position for power supply.

Last year when I took my C5 for the annual inspection, I encountered the same issue! Sitting in the driver's seat, I searched for a long time with my head down, only to find the interface stuck in the small area between the dashboard and the brake pedal. You need to lean sideways, adjust the seat backward to create some space, then reach your hand to the left side of the steering column's plastic trim panel, where you'll feel a rectangular socket with a dust cover. For newer models, it might be hidden in the groove above the accelerator pedal. My personal suggestion is to keep a smartphone camera lens sticker handy—using your phone's front camera to record and locate such hard-to-reach spots is the most convenient method. Remember to do this when the car is cold, as in a hot state, the engine compartment's heat can transfer to the cabin's metal parts and easily burn your hands.

As a C5 owner, here's a tip: After closing the door, let your left leg naturally rest against the door frame. About 15 cm directly in front of your knee, there's a plastic cover. Pry it open with your fingernail to reveal the standard OBD port, cleverly positioned to avoid leg movement interference. When searching, be careful not to confuse it with the fuse box under the steering wheel - the port is slightly larger than a USB drive and has a standard trapezoidal outline. Always insert/remove diagnostic tools parallel to avoid bending pins (I bent some last year by inserting at an angle). For 2018 hybrid models, the port is relocated to a small hidden compartment on the right side of the glove box.

I've disassembled three C5s to verify this issue: There's a removable trim panel on the far left of the driver's side dashboard. Gently pry open the edge with a flathead screwdriver, and you'll find the 16-pin connector embedded in the steering column bracket. For some models, you'll need to lie on your back on the floor mat to see it, located about two finger-widths above and to the right of the brake pedal linkage. The design intention was to keep it concealed while allowing extension cable connections - dealership mechanics are accustomed to using magnetic work lights to locate it. When performing this operation yourself, it's recommended to wear an anti-static wristband, as the infotainment module is located just 10cm behind the connector. If you notice dust on the connector, avoid using cotton swabs - the safest method is to use a car vacuum cleaner on its lowest setting.

Driving a C5 for ride-hailing for five years, I often touched the OBD port while helping passengers plug in chargers. The port is actually located at the 7 o'clock position directly below the steering wheel shaft, mostly obscured by the steering column. The correct method is to first feel the metal pedal bracket, then slide your fingers upward about five centimeters along the bracket until your fingertips touch the plastic cover with anti-slip texture. In newer models, it has been relocated to a hidden compartment under the USB port in the center armrest, requiring the removal of the entire base tray. It's recommended to attach reflective stickers on the port cover for easier nighttime location. Remember to close the cover after diagnostics—some car owners forgot, leading to water ingress during car washes that fried the ECU. Before annual inspections, it's best to test the port voltage yourself; readings below 9 volts can affect emissions test data.
