The OBD port of the Ford Focus is located inside the storage compartment below the light control switches. Simply pull open the storage compartment and remove it to access the port. The Ford Focus is a compact car with body dimensions of 4647mm in length, 1810mm in width, and 1468mm in height. In terms of power, the Ford Focus is equipped with two engines: a 1.0T and a 1.5T. The 1.0T engine delivers a maximum power output of 94kW, while the 1.5T engine produces a maximum power of 135kW. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Regarding its exterior, the Ford Focus adopts the brand's new family design, featuring sharp-looking LED headlights with distinctive L-shaped daytime running lights.

Last time I helped my neighbor fix his 2012 Focus, I ran into the issue of locating the OBD port. This port is usually found below the steering wheel—just crouch down and look above the brake pedal. In older models, it’s often positioned slightly to the right above the accelerator pedal, hidden as a black trapezoidal socket. Once, I met a fellow car owner who couldn’t find it no matter what, only to discover it was blocked by the floor mat—so remember to lift the mat when checking. The safest method is to turn off the engine, use your phone’s flashlight, feel the back of the steering column with your left hand, and probe around knee level with your right hand. You’ll know you’ve found it when you touch a hard plastic box with 16 pins. Some newer models hide it behind the fuse box cover, which takes a bit more effort to access.

As an experienced car owner who frequently uses a diagnostic scanner to check for faults, I've developed a habit of adjusting the driver's seat all the way back when locating the Focus OBD port. By crouching sideways, my line of sight naturally aligns with the throttle pedal bracket. Specifically, it's positioned about 5 cm to the left of the clutch pedal (or brake pedal for automatic transmissions) - you'll find a socket with a dust cover there. The hatchback version offers better accessibility, while the sedan's port sits slightly higher. Important reminder: Never plug/unplug devices with ignition on! Last time I got lazy and didn't turn off the engine, which blew the scanner's fuse - wasted half a day fixing it. Now I always keep spare fuses in the glove compartment.

According to the Ford repair manual illustration, the standard location of the Focus OBD-II diagnostic interface is in the area below the steering column. For practical operation: Sit in the driver's seat with the door closed, bend down and use your fingers to feel along the lower edge of the steering wheel towards the knee direction. A trapezoidal interface can be touched approximately 15-20 cm from the knee. For the second-generation Focus (2004-2010), it is biased above the accelerator pedal, while for the third-generation (2011-2018), it is closer to the knee airbag position. If a steering wheel lock has been installed, it may cause obstruction. It is recommended to remove the steering wheel cover before searching. Before connecting the diagnostic equipment, ensure the key is turned to the OFF position to avoid electrical circuit impact.
