Min D license plates are from Xiamen City, Fujian Province. The license plate codes for other cities in Fujian Province are as follows: Min A is Fuzhou, Min B is Putian, Min C is Quanzhou, Min E is Zhangzhou, Min F is Longyan, Min G is Sanming, Min H is Nanping, Min J is Ningde, and Min K is for the provincial system. License plates, also known as vehicle registration plates, serve the following purposes: 1. They indicate the region to which the vehicle belongs; 2. They allow for tracking the vehicle's owner and registration information. License plates are plates made of aluminum, sheet iron, plastic, or paper, mounted on the front and rear of the vehicle.

I just got my driver's license a couple of days ago, and my instructor specifically explained license plate knowledge to me. Min-D is the license plate for Xiamen, Fujian! You see, all license plates in Fujian Province start with 'Min'. Min-A is for the provincial capital Fuzhou, Min-B is for Putian, and following the alphabetical order, D stands for Xiamen. I remember when practicing driving on the Island Ring Road, the instructor pointed at the Min-D plate of the car in front and said, 'Cars with this kind of license plate are all local to Xiamen.' If you see cars with Min-D plates in Zengcuo'an or at the Gulangyu ferry terminal, they're mostly vehicles of Xiamen's permanent residents. Whether it's Siming District or Huli District on the island, or Jimei, Tong'an, Xiang'an, Haicang outside the island, they all use this license plate.

As a backpacker, I've traveled to many cities across the country and am quite familiar with license plates. The 'Min D' plates are highly recognizable in Fujian, as they uniformly belong to Xiamen vehicles. I remember last time at a guesthouse in Gulangyu, the owner pointed to the parking lot outside the window and said, 'Look at those blue-plated cars with the D character—they're all private cars owned by Xiamen locals.' As a special economic zone, Xiamen's license plates are designated 'Min D,' right after 'Min A,' compared to 'Min C' for Quanzhou and 'Min E' for Zhangzhou. Min D vehicles are more concentrated in the urban areas of the island. Nowadays, there are also many green-plated new energy vehicles, but they still retain the 'Min D' designation on their plates.

Having lived in Xiamen for twenty years, I can recognize a Min D license plate with my eyes closed. All six districts of Xiamen use this license plate series, including places like Siming, Huli, and Haicang. Last time, a friend from Quanzhou came to visit me in a Min C-plated car and even got confused at the toll lane when crossing the Haicang Bridge. I remember back in 2000 when Xiamen first issued the 92-style license plates, the first batch started with Min D—even the police cars at our community police station had Min D plates. Now, driving a ride-hailing car every day, seven or eight out of ten vehicles on the road have Min D plates.
