The lane assist module in the Audi A6 is located on the left side of the rear bumper. Composition of the Lane Keeping Assist System: Information Collection Unit: In the lane keeping assist system, its function is similar to that of the lane departure warning system. It mainly collects lane information and the vehicle's own driving information through onboard sensors and sends it to the electronic control unit. Electronic Control Unit: It primarily processes the information through specific algorithms and determines whether to perform corresponding lane departure correction operations. The performance of this unit directly affects the timeliness of lane departure correction. Therefore, when selecting the central processing unit and designing the control algorithm, computational capability and speed should be emphasized. Execution Unit: It is mainly divided into three parts: the alarm module, steering wheel control module, and brake control module. The alarm module is similar to the lane departure warning system, implemented through one or more forms such as steering wheel or seat vibration, dashboard display, and sound alerts. The steering wheel control module and brake control module are unique to the lane keeping assist system. They mainly achieve coordinated control of lateral and longitudinal movements and ensure the vehicle maintains a certain level of driving stability during LKAS operation. Working Principle of the Lane Keeping Assist System: When the system is operating normally, the information collection unit collects data such as lane lines, vehicle speed, steering wheel angle, and vehicle speed through onboard sensors. The electronic control unit processes this information, compares the lane lines with the vehicle's driving direction, and determines whether the vehicle is deviating from the driving lane. The lane keeping assist system can be activated throughout the entire driving process or when the speed reaches a certain threshold and can be manually turned off, maintaining the vehicle's driving trajectory in real-time. When the vehicle is likely to deviate from the lane, it issues an alarm. When the distance between the vehicle and the lane line on the deviation side is less than a certain threshold or when a wheel has already deviated from the lane line, the electronic control unit calculates the auxiliary steering force and deceleration, controlling the steering wheel and brake control modules based on the degree of deviation. It applies steering force and braking force to stabilize the vehicle and return it to the normal track. If the driver turns on the turn signal for a normal lane change, the system will not issue any alerts.
